My son was riding his 250 Recon with manual shift. He said he hit a bump( nothing major ) and he lost fith gear. 1-4 work but now 5th is like neutral

Any idea what the problem is and how detailed the repair?

One possibility is when he went over the "bump",he may have been trying to shift, or had his foot under the shifter peg, and the impact caused him to jam it in while on the throttle,causining the shift fork to bend just enough to miss catching 5th gear. Its a long shot, but having all the other gears work, no funny grinding noises coming from motor or trans may point to the linkage just being broken/bent enough to miss the last gear? I doubt it broke teeth off or anything like that, or you would be hearing something when trying to get into 5th.
