Guy's I am going to buy a winch.Do I need a 2000 lb or a 2500 lb?I ride with a friend who alway's stuck in the mud he ride's a 750lb quad.Also which brand is the best buy?

 

Which brand to buy is so debatable. Everyone has a different opinion. I don't think you will go wrong with any. Service seems to be good on all the major brands. So you need to figure how much your willing to spend. 2000/2500 is too close to call. Either one would pull you just fine. I have a 1500 on one atv and have never had a problem using it to pull anything I have tried to. One key element to get though is a good ****** block. Then no matter which winch you get, you can double the power.

 

If you have the money get the Warn 2500, it comes with a 6' remote and includes a roller fairlead for about $50.00 - $60.00 more than the Warn 2000. From what I understand they are basically the same winch but the 2500 has heavier gauge wires to carry more amperage. I have had Warn 2000's on my machines and have never been dissapointed, but a 6' remote and a little more pulling power would be pretty nice. As mentioned in the previous post, get yourself a good snatchblock, a tree saver strap, a shackle or two, some gloves, some extra cable or tow straps, and you'll be good to go. I checked with Northern Tool's they did't have the 2500lb warn.Where can I get this winch and how much will I have to pay? Thank's for your help.

Despite the ratings, the Warn A2000 and A2500 have identical motors and drivetrains; electrically, if the wiring resistance were reduced to zero on the A2500 (impossible in the real world), you wouldn't pick up 25 % more current than available for the A2000. Bottom line: they both pull about the same. If you're sold on Warn (I believe Superwinch products are worthwhile also), choose your model based upon whether you want a remote switch or not; and, like the man says, get a ****** block!

go with the 2000lb set up, and like others i would recommend getting the ****** block . As for the actual ratings its been my understanding that while the winch is rated at 2000lbs pull ( single winding on the spool) you wont actaully get your winch to pull that much on an atv because the electrical systems cant supply the needed 'juice' to get the maximum pull.( thats where the ****** block comes in handy ) . If this is true,and it makes sense that it is, then there is no point spending the extra money on a 2500lb winch. thats my $.02

 

I have a superwinch 1500 on my Foreman 400. It is a litle weak and the brake doesn't even keep my plow up. However it has'nt left me stuck yet.
I have a warn 2500 on my Rubicon. Big difference! I bought it online at www.atvpartsdepot.com .I still have'nt seen a better price.

 

If your T1500 Superwinch won't hold the plow, muzzy3, you might want to consider the internal spring brake accessory (about $ 20); standard on the ATV 2000. (Understand Warn makes accessory brakes, too.)
