2001 honda 300ex

i have a 2001 honda 300 ex, and when i go in to 2nd gear it goes to bog out so i have to pull clutch to keep it running. and when i shift to 3rd gear it acts like it wants to die, could this have anything to do with a voltage regulator? please help

Does it accelerate normally through 1st gear?
You're not shfting it into 2nd too soon are you? and then 3rd?
