Another Rubicon Tranny Question (Need Input)
#1
First off if I bought a whole new Tanny unit how hard is it to replace? Any special tools required??
I am looking at buying a Rubi that has some issues and needs some work. It was wrecked and from what the guy has told me it tries to pull in low range but makes a whining noise. It runs fine but won't go basically. We have had a Rubicon in the family before and never had a problem with it so I don't know much about tearing one apart.
Also does any one have a manual for a Rubicon I can download some where online?
Thanks in advance.

If it has been wrecked, and the transmission is bad, IMHO the machine may be parts.
My concern would be lack of oil change, or sinking it and getting grit into the oil passages may have taken out the hydrostat unit in the first place. If you spend $$$ to get the ATV operational, and then have problems with the rod or top end, or if grit hidden behind bearings or in the oil cooler gets back into the oil stream when the machine gets hot... If it was seriously wrecked, you might not know until you get it going that the frame is bent, or when you are replacing the hydrostat you might find the case is cracked, or something else really serious.
Anyway, if you are still considering this, I'd snag a manual so you know exactly what you are getting into.
I suspect, though, that for less money and time than you would have into a risky Rubicon repair, you could likely find a well cared for 500 Foreman...

If it has tranny problems its pretty well junk, the over complicated HONDAMATIC UNIT
is unservicable and can only be replaced for $1,153.85. Heres a link to prove it. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks guys. This one didn't pan out and probably a good thing. When I called back some one else already bought it. I can't believe how cheap these were booking for. I have just started buying old ATVs and fixing them up to resale them and thought this could be my next project.
