Default 2003 Rincon 650: Grinding noise putting in Drive and Rerverse, Need Help!!

I'm trying to figure this out, When I try to put the ATV in drive or reverse, I hear a grinding noise which is not cool. When I first start up the ATV let it warm up a bit, the shifting into gear isn't so bad. Once when the ATV is warmed up good, I notice the grinding. I'm looking through the service manual and in the transmission section theres an arrow pointing to a part called switch. The manual doesn't explain what this switch is. Does this quad have an electronic clutch. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this problem would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Shift linkage could be out of whack or the cable is hanging up. The end of the cable has been known to get messed up on the holder on the end.

The other thing that comes to mind is idle too high.

What components did you have to replace in the sub transmission ?

If this just started, hopefully you haven't damaged gears in the sub-transmission, but don't run it until you get it figured out.

The transmission and sub-transmission run in engine oil. The only gear oil used in the machine is GL-5 rated 80w (or 75W90) in the front and rear axles.

Rinconriders.com I think has the shift cable adjustment/inspection procedure on their wiki. You will need a digital tach to accurately check the idle speed.
