Default 2002 500 rubicon

I have a 2002 500 rubicon .What are the D1 and D2 modes for and can you shift from one mode to the other on the fly? This is a new bike for me and just had topend rebuilt.Dash does not work have to check it out can they be fixed or just replaced all else seems to be working find?

D1 is for max performance and D2 is for max tourque. You can't switch on the fly you need to come to a complete stop. If you need a service manual let me know, I didn't look to see if one was posted on the forum.

D1 keeps the rpms close to the peak hp curve. This mode feels "sportier" and it is more throttle responsive.
D2 keeps the rpms close to the peak torque curve. Honda thought this would be helpful on slippery surfaces by making the engine lug so it wouldn't spin the tires as easy. I like D2 while cruising to keep the rpms lower.

Low range defaults to D2 regardless if you select D1 or D2.

You can select D1, D2 or ESP at any speed but it will not change until you come to almost a complete stop.
