02 Honda rancher draining battery
#1
hey everyone, so i have had a problem with my rancher over the past 6 months. It started in winter with plowing. The wheeler would start fine then sit for less than a week and then not have enough power to start. Waited for it to get warm out to look more in depth with it. Charged battery and when up north for the weekend. It was wet and lots of puddles. Wheeler ran good for 1st day. 2nd day it the electric shift was acting up would shift properly took awhile to shift in and out of gears and ended up blowing the main fuse( never happended before). replaced and still had shifting problems. got it home and battery was almost dead. Bought new battery adn went up north to try it again. Same thing happening. hard to shift in and out of gear after using for about 2 hours. tested battery it was low again like the chraging system wasnt working. I checked for the obvious problems and found nothing. thought maybe the winch was draining it. so i disconnected it and still same problem. Would let it sit over night and not enough power to start up. I felt the voltage regulator and it was super HOT. Way hotter than an other voltage regulator i felt. Could my voltage regulator not be working? Why would it be super HOT? I did search on here and read to pull fuses and use a test light between the negative connection and neg post. havent tried that yet. any ideas why it would be draining.sorry for the long post. Thanks
