91 fourtrax 300 electrical problem
Ok guys. This problem is killing me. My fourtrax 300 must have a short somewhere in the wiring. I first noticed the problem when I had no lights for the neutral reverse or oil temp. And the electric start wouldn't work. So I kickstarted it while we rode for the rest of the day. No big deal. Well when I brought it home I checked it out and found a burnt fuse from the front of the bike to the middle red plug connector by the battery. Well they are soldered in line so I just cut the wires and put a spade type fuse in place. Wired all the same way. So I went to reconnect everything and when I went to put my positive terminal back on the battery the bike tried starting. Even with the key off. So I went back and disconnected cdi box and other smaller box. Same problem. Other connections seem to be ok. Any suggestions?

Well. Checked all the fuses. All good. Start solenoid isn't the problem either. Even with wires disconnected it does the same. So I still think it's a short somewhere in the wire harness. I ordered a new one today. I'll try that and see. If not that then I have no idea lol. Thanks for the reply

Did you get the neg.batt cable mixed up with the starter wire from solenold? sounds like you hooking up the starter wire straight to batt.!Its eazy to do.make sure the ground from back of starter is goin to the neg.batt.And the starter wire is going to solenold. If you have them backwards the atv wouldnt have an ground to burn lights and the starter would enage when you hook cable to batt.Good Luck.....
