Default 400 ex sportrax rear diff.

Are the rear differentials from the 1999 ex and the 2003 model swapable?

*edit*
the bearings in the rear axle are bad, how hard would it be to change them?
and how do you get the rear axle out?

(doing this for my dad)

The Axle Slides out the right side if your sitting on the quad. Theres 2 nuts that are right next to the rear diff. But you have to take off your tire and your hub off to even slide the axle out. Theres bearings on each side of the axle barring carrier. Goodluck

This is not a difficult problem to fix if you have 3 things:

1 Factory Service Manual (order it from parts store or online, they are worth their weight in gold)
2 Proper wrenches (they have a specific size for the axle nuts, and it's worth it to have the proper sized ones, as opposed to damaging parts with crescent or pipe wrenches)
3 Basic mechanical skills.

read manual, use tools, fix problem, make Dad happy, ride till the cows come home
