Help.. with tires and rims for Fourtrax 300
#1
I just bought a 99 Honda Fourtrax 300 2x4 and the rims don't seem to hold air too long, the itres are ok but if I can just put on other oem sets that will be easier. Does anyone know what is the biggest tire and rim I can put? What other models are inter changeable with this atv? any help will be useful.
Thanks.
Thanks.

depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to have a completely useless bling thing to ride in parades on level streets, you can go with the biggest tire/wheel combo made.
If you want to have a reasonably useful atv for general riding purposes, don't go much bigger than a 26" tire, as the 300cc engine won't have the grunt to turn anything taller. Remember that you can't change gear rations on the 300 to offset going taller.
I guarantee some ******** will tell you they went with 28 to 30's and then tell you they can handle mud all day long, but they're idiots...there's just not enough torque in that 300 to effectively turn tires that big/tall. I ran 26x12x12 rear tires with aftermarket wheels on my 95 300 2wd and it still had the power to take me anywhere I wanted to go.

Thanks, yeah I don't want the "parade" atv, instead I want to be able to use it for multiple trails, nothing heavy of course. just was wondering if I could go with a bit bigger tire in order to increase ground clearance a little.

Hey Tex not to be a know it all or anything lol but I'm running 29.5s on my 300. With a 54% gear reduction and clutch kit. It doesn't have problems turning them at all. Of course this is just for a mud bike and I know that's not what jc is looking for but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. Just saying it can be done. Not trying to offend anyone

my apologies...I should have been a bit more specific and mentioned "stock running gear" somewhere...with the 54% reduction (wow!) you are talking about, you certainly do not fall within the "********" category I was referring to...in fact, I think thats rather impressive to be able to get 29s to turn effectively with only a 300...the significant weight savings of a smaller bike with that size tire must make for some fun mud riding. Do you have a warn 2x4 so that you can disengage the fulltime 4wd?
No, what I was referring to was the occasional dumbass braggart who thinks he's giving good advise by telling folks who don't know any better that a stock setup on a 300/400 class bike can effectively turn huge mud tires...it just doesn't work out that way.
Have you posted some pics of this setup? I would love to see them

What is the bolt pattern on your Honda 300? is it 4x110? Yamaha and Honda share the same bolt pattern on a lot of quads, I once put my stock 12" Wolverine rims with the factory 23" tires on my son's 250 Recon, it looked great, handled and rode even better than the factory "balloon" tires. Maybe check ebay or Craigslist for anyone getting rid of some stock rims and tires and see what fits. I agree with tire size, stay with the factory 24", or even a 25, as long as you dont get to aggressive with tread, and it should pull them fine.
