Default Winch Wiring

Hi I just bought a Superwinch 3000 kit for my new 500 Foreman. It looks real easy to install except for the red wire coming from the switch which goes to the ignition. Could I hook this to the solenoid and have it work live without the ignition on? Or not hook it up at all?

I am assuming that this red wire is from the switch that controls in and out movements of the winch.
If so, you can hook it up to the starter solenoid on the battery side and get power to run the winch with the key off.
This wire controls voltage to the winch solenoid thru the switch. Without it connected, the winch won't work.

Personally I prefer to wire that to keyed power for safety.

IMHO it is better to tap the + side if the accessory socket as it is fused, and not critical to the machine running.

I would also recommend only wiring it to keyed power. I had to change the wiring on my winch on a 97 Honda Foreman 400 from the solenoid to a keyed power on-only wire because it would only come on intermittently.
