2 queations.. 300 4x4 reverse grinding, and lean carb
#1
Just got a 300 that had a bad rearend in it and I had a old 2wd sitting around so i sawpped the rear to the 4x4 and got it going, but as soon as I put it in reverse it just grinds away and doesnt pull at all. all foward gears work fine. Just seeing if this migth be a common problem or if im gonna have to tear into the tranny?
Next question, it had been sitting up for a while so the carb was gummed up. I took it apart and cleaned all the jets and holes ect and stuck it back on. It will run now, but only with the choke all the way on. Its obviously lean but I tried adjusting the idle air screew and it didnt change a bit. Am I missing something? has fresh gas in it.
thanks everyone this fourm is full of answers! I love it!

Yea sorry gotta ask, I have seen some real crazy stuff on here. If the bike will only run with the choke all the way, it sounds like you still need to do some cleaning on the carb. The idle circuit probably still has some trash behind the adjustment needle. I have a good friend that's a mechanic at the local honda shop I will ask him about the grinding in reverse.

cleaned the whole carb again and cleaned the idle adjustment twice. Nothing was in it but I blew it out with air and carb cleaner both times. I replaced the rubber O rings also on the needle. No change at all, this is driving me nuts!!!!! I checked for a vacume leak around the intake side of the carb and nothing!!! what am I missing?!?
