07 honda 420 smoking BAD
i got this quad 2 days ago its a 07 honda rancher 420 it runs good shifts good no knocks or ticks just smokes BAD like it needs rings or rebuilt whats my best option and what should i uy just rings and gaskets or the whole cleaning piston rings and everything route??

at the very least a set of rings & a gasket set. Do a compression test on the cylinder and get a good reading- that will halp determine how bad it is. If the compression is low, repost and I'll give you a few tips how to quickly determine the cause without tearing the engine apart
If the cylinder has no large deep scratches and the piston looks good- a simple cylinder hone and a set of rings should be fine.

Ok, here's a little something to try before you do anything. Do an oil and filter change but short the oil by about a pint. Then add a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil. My 2001 F150 was blowing blue smoke and going through oil at a rate of 1 qt. every 400 miles ! My nephew who is a ford mechanic told me to do the MM thing and I'll be darned if that didn't clear it up. I would have never believed it but it sure saved me a ton of money. It must have been a stuck ring or a stuck valve seal or something. I know I sound like a commercial but believe me, I have nothing to do with MM oil.
