Default 1989 TRX250R A-arms

I'm very new to ATV's and have a few questions regarding a 1989 Honda TRX250R that I have just recently picked up. I'm prevy to 2 strokes motorcycles, but after a recent, very heinous accident, I am changing sides. While shopping for a-arms, I notice details such as +3+1: I'm assuming that this means 3" wider (is this 3" wider over the total width of the front end, or 3" wider per side?). I'm also assuming that the latter +1 indicates the wheelbase being 1" longer on the front end - am I correct about this? Same with the rear axle? I would be looking to go with a wider, motorcross stance, so I'm thinking +3 up front and back, but I can't find anywhere online that gives the overall width given +3 a-arms. I'm looking for an approximate 50" width, as 50" seems to be the standard for motocross - what size a-arms should I go with in this case? Thanks in advance for your response.
