Could be time for a carb cleaning, the pilot jet, which controls fuel flow for idling and low speed throttle, is extremely tiny and easily plugged with gunk or dirt. My son's old 300ex would not idle, but would run if you held the throttle open, pulled carb and found the pilot jammed full, had to use a strand of wire from a wire brush to open it up, ran like a champ after that. Air fuel mix screw should be at about 2-3 turns out from gently seated (dont crank it down hard) any more than 4 turns and either you need a bigger pilot jet, or you have a plugged passage in the carb. Unless you have modified the air box, increased air flow will require more fuel.
