the switch? sure, it's a matter of simple circuitry that has to be complete.

Are those to the kill switch? If so, it may be a bad switch because those wires look to be in good shape.

Can you either wrap the handlebars or the wire with electrical tape?

the neutral switch is on the right side of the engine underneath the clutch casing, its covered by a lil metal plate holding on by 2 1/4 inch bolts remember not to switch the 2 connections because the reverse rev limiter is also in there..if you switch them you will kno lol. you wont go past 5 kmhr if that happends reverse the connections.. i usually redo all my wiring connections during the winter so i can avoid the same problems your experiencing. I have in some cases had that prob and got so frustrated being 30 km from home i used my house key to jump the celinoid..wear a freaking glove if have to do this lol..but in the end all of you guys are right there is a neutral switch on the 300ex and its more than likely a wiring issue which is not uncommon with these quads..

also for your wiring connections try and solder those conxx if not use proper male/female conxx but also put dielectric grease ontop of the conxx and also use heat shrink covers the whole conxx plus a few invhs of wiring..remember to put the heat shrink on firts b4 the conxx or you will swear at yourself.. my quad would quit last year everytime i switched on my highbeams..that was a pain especially at 1am...300ex's are great trail machines..the engines are almost bulletproof..iv had mine for years and 3 ppl had b4 me so who knows what they did to it..but still runs strong..good luck keep us posted..happy riding.
