ok so here's the deal. I bought a 2002 honda 400ex from a dude when i got it it ran like a top. brought it home and rode it for 2 days and was driving on the street and it died on me was in 5th gear going down the road and it like stalled out. so i pull off the road and it started back up. so i ride it about 3 football fields and it stoped again havent started sence. The 4 wheeler had been setting up for 1 year the guy said. so thought it was a fouled plug. so far i got a new air filter new sparkplug changed the oil and filter got some yama lube carburetor cleaning dip and cleaned the carb out. im getting spark from the plug cause i did the screwdriver test and seen the blue spark. and i tried 4 differnt sparkplugs thinking i might he gotten a bad one. after all that i did nothing i have checked the wires making sure there wasnt a gound and the stator is in good shape its got good cropression wasnt smoking at all when i drove it. so now that i went thru that im not sure what to do it was running great then just died as i was going down the road was in 5th giving it gas and it just lost power. can anyone tell me what they think it might be im kinda stumped and yea i got a new gaspet set for the carb and for the oil filter cap . just pulled out the spark plug again to test the new one i had it its sparking alot blue. how much gass should i put in the cylindar it make sure the carb cleaner done its job.

The 400ex's are pretty solid. I've seen quite a few that sit for well over a year. While they all smoked like a freight train, they were revivable without any major work. The one thing that HAD to be done to each was the carb cleaning. Try and find a cutting torch, tip cleaner. They are little thin metal sticks that work great for getting into the holes of the jets and tubes. You'll have to tear the carb down and work it over real well. It's not uncommon to do it a couple of times.

While jumping time is not impossible, it's unlikely. With that said its not hard to check. I believe the timing marks are easily accessible. The 400ex's are also known to stretch that timing chain. Once it's stretches to a point you'll hear a steady ticking. As many times as I've heard ppl have that tick, including my brothers that even broke the chain guide I haven't heard of one actually jumping a tooth.

Okay you said good compression!!!!!What was the readings? Got to have an reading...Some people check by putting finger over the plug hole....That is hard to gauge....50 pounds will blow finger off of hole..Needs aleast 100-160 pounds..To make engine crank an run correctly....lower will run but would have some issues...Thanks...PS was engine noisey when it quit?

Does the machine have a any mods? The fuel/air screw gets set at 2.5 turns out from seated and needle goes on the third clip. Did you strip the carb down and soak the entire unit? Sometimes even when soaking it you have to blow out all of the passage ways.

yes I did I took it all the way apart i now have fuel coming out when i press in the throttle. I have good spark its sucking in air good put my hand over the hole the carb goes in and it about sucked my palm off lol. seems to be getting fuel but i'm guessing it's from me pressing the gas trying to start it. the jet of gas when u press the throttle will shot like 12 feet so i know gas has to be getting gas and its got spark compresion is good. when i try to start it it just turns over doesn't even try to combust in the cylinder. so yea not sure if im flooding it or not enuff gas going in or what but wouldn't it try to start if it was getting to much gas ? and i sprayed a shot of starter fluid right where u connect the carb to the motor and it didn't try to start so i'm kinda confused.
