I am going to look at an 87 250r on Tuesday and I was wondering what areas I should pay special attention to. The quad is "all original" except for a DG pipe and silencer. He says its in mint condition and is asking 3900 for it, is that good? Thanks for all the help.

You should look for cracks in the fram in these aears front motor mounts, rear motor mounts( by the swing arm) cracks in the swing arm by the axle carrier or any type of crack in the fram or swing arm. That's not a bad price because i bought my 86 all stock except for a fmf silencer.

Unless it is mint I wouldn't pay that much for it.I would say 3500 at the most.

Also look for crack around the steering stem mount, where the seat/fenders mount, where the swingarm connects on the frame, upper shcok mounts, check all the wheel bearings,Make sure it goes in nuetral easily, condition of chain and sprockets.Take it for a spin and check all the gears, try to get the clutch to slip and listen for any strange noises.

I know this sound like alot but as you know 250r's are riddin hard and I am sure you don't want to spend all your money and then end uo having to replace stuff

I payed 2500 for my 86 and it was ALL original. From the grips to the wheels and tires. It was and still is in pretty good shape. No cracks all good bearings.Only prob is a slight oil leak.

Check the bearings and back end. Make sure there is not to much play. Axles ,carrier and everything add up real quick. I found out the hard way on my 250x. Negotiate every little imperfection in the price.
