I just put one in my 400EX a couple weeks ago. It isn't broken in yet so I can't tell you how well it works yet. Right now I'm running it with a new 10.6:1 86mm JE piston, K&N, e-series slip-on, 14 tooth sprocket, and the stock carb. So far I am very impressed with the performance even though I have been trying to take it easy. It revs much quicker and pulls way harder than before. This cam is from a power-up kit for the XR400 and they claim the kit gives the XR400 15% more power across the entire power curve. (Other components in the full HRC kit are a 11:1 piston and clutch upgrades). I think that this cam alone will give you at least 10% more than an XR400 cam. Also, XR's Only sells a copy of this HRC cam for about the same price as any other after-market cam. The genuine cam is pricey though- $280 to $400+ depending on where you look.

Did you get the copy or the real deal? Whats the differance between the two besides the ovious? Do you have to use hardened rockers or heavy-duty valve springs? I wonder if this cam is any better than my Web-cam 450/451 grind?

I got the real deal from Service Honda for $277. Before getting the HRC cam I bought a used 450/451 WebCam for real cheap -but never actually used it because it alreay had too much wear. The HRC cam is much thicker than that WebCam- I mean the diameter across the lobes is about 1/8" more than the WebCam. It also comes with the decompression feature- which is nice on a cold day when the 400EX can be hard to start. XR's Only claims that you don't need hard faced rockers with their copy cam. I got the hard faced rockers anyways, just to be safe. I didn't get new springs because I figure that next year I'll get a port/valve job and take care of them then.

Trailmix, let me know what you think of the cam as soon as you break in the motor and open "her" up.

TrailMix,

How much is the HR Cam that you use?
Do you have a Honda Part # for it?
Did you order it on-line?
Do you need to upgrade any other internal parts (valves, springs, etc) in the engine if you use this cam in a 400EX?

Thanks for any info / help on this...
