I recently purchased a 2001 400ex. It has lots of aftermarket parts, including front shocks. The shocks have been reworked by Legacy ATV. I recently took the shock covers off to find the springs were white and black. The black being the bottom, and the white being the top. Is there a difference between the colors? I guess I need to make myself a little more clear. I see other shocks with blue, red, and white springs. I know if there are three different colors, it means triple rate. But do the colors of the springs mean anything?

 

Sorry I can't answer your question, but my friends, and also my works triple rate front shocks, have both top springs white in color. Blue on the bottom.
