I have a 86 250-r with fmf phatty, fmf silencer mild port, rad valve.I run Honda HP2 racing oil at 32:1 ratio with premium gas. Comp. is at 140 psi cold.If your comp. is 160 or higher you may want to run a higher octane fuel.Keep a close eye on jetting , ride on..... ride red.....

I have an 86 and 87, both FMF pipes, K&N, CR head gaskets, Boyesen reeds, stock carbs rejetted, etc.
I run 92 octane pump gas with Golden Spectro. I mix at 40:1 for sand, 50:1 for dirt. Mixes easily and stays mixed. Never had a problem because of it. Just run the 92 octane, you should be fine.

What do you mean by it "blew up?" Have you pulled it apart and seen the damage?
I've melted pistons and lost all compression from too lean jetting and fuel/oil mix.
I've siezed motors from air leaks and had to replace everything.
So, tell what happened and people can give you more answers.

yeh i took apart my motor...the piston was semi-seized from the metal shavings from the hole in the piston but i cleared that out, everything else seemed to be fine. do u think this is from the wrong jettin or wrong mixture? everyone is tellin me 32:1 should be fine. i have a 169 main jet and i dont know about the pilot jet. also if there is anything else that could have caused the top end to go

From the hole in the top of the piston you were running too lean.
Take off your left side cover and see if there is any oil at all in there. If there is, you have a leak in the crank seal and this will cause you to suck air into the crankcase and "lean out" your mix and smoke your motor. According to my local Honda dealer, you should replace this seal every time you do a top-end. Lots of people don't pay any attention to it and continue to have the same problems of piston melt down, etc.
Also, you could have a air leak around the base gasket of the cylinder. This will cause the same problem.
If you pull the jug off and take out the piston, give your rod/crank a check, make sure not worn out. I didn't do this and seized one that way also (I think I've made most of the mistakes at least once already).
I don't know if you're running a stock carb or not, but, if stock, jet sizes are .160, .162, .165, .168, .170.
No, a mix at 32:1 is not a lean mix by any means. It's fatter than what I run, but I use a different oil. Your "mix" didn't cause the melt down.
