Try cleaning the gas tank out and also clean the carb again and put a new fuel filter on it. Also replace spark plug or sandblast it clean.

gonna try a new plug tonight. i was thinkin plugged petcock or sumthin but that doesnt explain running good off of idle. unless its running lean throughout the whole range?

got home a lil while ago, fired it up with no choke and it ran for about a minute then died as if the bowl went dry. checked all the vent lines and theyre fine and have good flow from the fuel line. changed the plug and fired it back up, idled for a couple minutes so i took it for a spin and came back. idled for a few more minutes just fine. why would a new plug help this out if it ran fine everywhere else but idle?

I had the same happen to me on a 200SX once. In fact, I didn't think the plug was bad because I took it out, grounded it on the head, and hit the starter button. I got a nice blue spark. But under compression, it would not fire, unless at idle. Summary: When a plug fouls, it doesn't always mean it's dirty, or that you can tell by looking at it. It means it just doesn't have the capability to jump the gap under compression. And the more RPM, the more compression. At least that's my theory and I'm stickin to it.
