I just did this modification to my 300EX. No the 86-87 Arms will not fit. The eyelets on the ends are too big. but, 400EX aarms will bolt directly in. Now, what you do is you order the kit from ATV Racing (http://www.inficad.com/~atv) to relocate the upper shock mounts so that you can mount the 250R shocks on. It all is fairly easy to do. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

I have used the '88/'89 250r a-arms for this modification. The only problem (if you can call it that) was the spacers on the 250r a-arms at the mounts were to long so I just used my old spacers, worked perfectly. 400ex a-arms should work just as well, trx300exr is correct the '86/'87 250r a-arm eyelets are too big.

I don't know about ordering a kit to relocate the upper shock mounts. What I did was take it to my local shop $not a dealer$ and told him what I was doing and that I needed him to weld some bar stock above the old mounts. He did a great job even with keeping the same angle of the old mounts and bracing it on top. Then had the frame powder coated black...sweet...looks like it was designed that way.

If you do not modify the frame and u use your stock shocks the quad will sit lower because you just pushed the a-arms out 2". If you go the other way and use the 250r shocks but no frame mod you will be sitting higher. Your best bet if you are going with this a-arm mod is to just get the frame work done as well. Just find a fab shop to do the work or if you know what your doing and have a mig welder do it yourself.

To make the 250R shocks fit, you must relocate your top shock mount. I chose to order the kit rather than fabricating it myself. I welded in the kit with my MIG welder, then painted over it and i have never encountered any trouble out of it. It looks sweet and makes the quad handle worlds better. I wouldn't trade this mod for any.
I would highly reccomend it to any 300EX/250X owner that wants a better handling quad and doesn't want to pay the extra $ to get aftermarket
aarms.
