I have been looking for a used Quad but, new ones started to tempt me because of high prices on the used machines. I was going to make the 2 day round trip to the dealer in Mississippi when I found a used 4x4 Rancher ES (orange) with 5 hours on it. It is just a few months old (still under warranty) and I can get it for $4750. It is only about a 1.5 hour drive from my house. What do you guys think about the deal?

Any comments are appreciated.

I can't really comment on the price, because I'm lost when it comes to $US, but I would really suggest you NOT make a two day round trip to buy a new one. There must be a dealer closer than that, and even if you can save enough with the initial purchase price to pay for the trip, which I doubt, (what do you drive??) you also have to consider service. Dealers are likely to give you a lower priority if you bought your machine somewhere else. More importantly, if you don't keep your local dealer in business where will go for service when you need it.
Sometimes you've just got to bite the bullet if you value having business's in your community.

Get the used one. Check for major damage. It should not have any. Haggle em down 100-200 dollars; take the money you saved and put some 25" mud runners on it right away.

**It's a honda...what could they have done in five hours that's not noticible right away.

***Make sure to ask if both recalls have already been done.

What recalls were placed on 2001 4X4 Rancher ES's?

Thanks for the comments!

Some 2001 needed the the A-arm recall (pictures of this on TEXMUD's website), and also the they were replacing the ES shift plate. Both appear to monor. Also with the rancher being so new it was probably done at the factory or the dealership. Find out when he bought it and from what dealership. Then you can cross reference a news release on honda website (I believe in January) to see if the quad needed the recall's. You should be able to look under the front of the quad to see the A-Arm recall has been done. Good luck.

** seriosly if you get it..Spend the money right away to get the 25" mud runners from treadepot.com You will not regret it..

Scan through the other topics on this forum to make sure, but I believe that CODE54 just got this tire setup for $316 including shipping.

Swiftcreek,
Howdy neighbor,
Have you gone down to the Honda dealer on us70 Garner. Talk to Chris, he's good and tell him that Jim Barillaro and Gary Mason sent you to see him. I think you could get him to match and maybe beat the Mississippi price 4699. He's got all the colors too.
Good luck..

Gary, thanks for the tip! I just got off the phone with Chris but, he couldn't come close. He said $4700 is what they are paying for them. He did say that he appreciated you giving me his name. I would have seriously considered buying one there if they could have sold me one for $4700 plus tax.

I'd try to get them to come down a bit off the price. It's not a bad deal, but it's not a great deal either. From what I understand, Honda is still offering the $300.00 bonus bucks on Ranchers .Last month I paid $5650.00 for a new 2001 Rancher ES 4x4. That price included: tax, license, Warn winch (installed), and heated grips/throttle. I figured the price of the machine itself was roughly $4700.00 (tax and license was $500.00, heated grips/throttle were $125.00, and roughly $300.00 for the winch.) Good luck.

Buy a new one. With the 300 dollar rebate you can match that price on a new one and you won't have to worry about the recalls. Like another post said
put those 25" MUDRUNNERS on ASAP and you will have
a serious machine. It will look sooo good you'll
be walking outside just to look at it.

Hey Guys, I got a new Green 4x4 Rancher ES today. It was just a little more $ than the used one and worth it! Honda will even give me a $100.00 check if I take an ATV saftey class. Anybody here take the class? What is it like? Thanks again for your replies.
