I have been mobil 1 for awhile now, and my quad has been smoking ever since. But not immediatly after i change the oil. I had my head reseated, and valve seals replaced. The rings are staggered correctly, and are in perfect position, with a proper break in.

The problem is i am buring oil. And i figured out that the mobil is breaking down too fast. Will a synthetic blend cause this? should i go back to honda non synthetic? if not what other sythetic/non synthetic oils could i try that WILL NOT HARM THE CLUTCH. last think i want to do is have to replace a slipping clutch. I am inexperienced in oils and their capabilities. Can someone plz inform me on some oils that i could use.

Looks like your oil is too liquid (get a higher viscosity grade)...or you're putting too much of it...or your piston is almost dead...or...It never happened to me, so I can't really be ure of any..but these things up here should give you a direction.

Your best bet is to get the recommendation right from your engine builder or parts supplier. Other than that, I would recommend one of the four stroke engine oils made specifically for motorcycle engines with a wet clutch. A good parts counterperson can make a recommendation to you. Good luck.

ok i found out a few things.

Fact - Mobil one tri-synthetic 15W 50 will not harm the clutch/ whatever, and works extremely well lubricating the engine parts. it also lats alot longer than regular non-synthetic oils.

Opinion of most users, and more - Mobi 1 15 50, tri - synthetic is the best oil you can put in your quad for 4 bucks a quart. there are a few more , 8 bucks a quart, i forget the names but they cannot be found in a convient location. (wal-mart, advance auto) they must be ordered.

the reason i was buring oil was because i was running very rich, causing the oil coating ont he cylinderwall to be burned, since i have rejetted it hasn't been smoking.

This also seems logical due to it only smoked at high rpm's.

thanks for the help
