I’ve never known an oil pump to pack in but after you take the head off to do the rebuild, spin the engine over and see if oil is running from the gallery round the cylinder head stud, it takes a few seconds to start flowing so give it time.

You can tell if the motor seizes up and blows the top end due to lack of oil. Usually a oil pump is a very reliable part.
Why was going on with your ATV? A oil filter put in backwards on a Honda will stop oil flow.

It has a very loud knock when under very light to very heavy load. Just thought it might be the oil pump out on it. But it smokes alot so I guess I will be putting in rings and a piston in it. How hard is that to do? Thanks

Not a bad job but since your in there with it apart and a 2007 500 4x4 is a decent ATV,
I would change the valve seals and bore the cylinder and go one oversize in the piston.
That way you have a new top end.

Odd that a 2007 would need a top end so soon unless it has lots of miles or was drowned or ran with very low oil for a time.

Ok thanks. Actually it is a 2008 model with only 1400 miles on it ( sorry if a said 2007) . He was rough on It and he said he floded it. I bought it off him for 1500 and it has a 2 inch lift on it and ss ipt rims and 28 inch outlaws with a bunch of tread left and a warn winch and a big after market skid plate. But like I said the plastics aren't in that great condition. He said it just died on him in the yard and would not start back up. I took the carb all apart and couldn't find anything wrong with it but it would not start and it had good compression. So I got to reading on here about the spark plug cause I didn't have a good spark and so I went and got a new spark plug and it fired right up. And it didn't smoke drove a half tank of gas and it started smoking a little drove another half tank of gas in it and now smoking so bad that I parked it in the shed. It seems funny to me how fast it went to smoking. Think it could be something else? There's a bunch of oil in the muffler that ant being burned. It aslo has that honda tick but it is a hole lot louder than other honda atvs. Thanks

If it been flooded or sunk then complete engine tear down is needed...Alot of time if just the top end done its short lived...got to get all sand and mud out of engine and oil cooler to keep oil cleaned.....IMO
