in certian conditions my brothers recon will beat my 01 trailboss I'm going 48mph so i know he must hit about 50 mph in the winding trails even though he has to shift i have a hard time out running him. it also out climded me at silver lake. he made every hill with ease. it really pissed me off ( oh well )

ok will someone PLEASE narrow things down... I have heard more hype about the recons stock top speed than any other quad. I have heard it could range anywhere from 38 to around 50. I know it doesnt go fifty. Is there any articles that have this speed in it?

A stock Recon will do about 44-46 MAXIMUM. Anyone who says they do 50-55 is on drugs or clocking them with a Polaris speedometer.
I have 2 of them and they both run well, maxing out around 45.
Conceivably, top end could be increased with taller tires, but at the expense of acceleration.
Why is everyone so hung up on top speed? Probably less than 5% of my riding is at top.

couldnt somebody take a gps RIGHT NOW! and clock themselves? yes, go now ... go...! r-r-r-UN LASSIE! howd you do? how much do you think a 250 could do? id think 40 heavey people and 45 light people, remember, im not saying a word on the speed, because itll just get others confused. 55 mph with many mods and a 50 pound 1st grader. IT CAN BE DONE! ... but remember im not saying anything.

Ok I ride with a group of people and one owns a Recon. I doubt he can do fifty but then again some fourwheelers of the same kind can beat others of the same kind. Even I dont know why my Suzuki LT 250 does almost 50mph in low. And yes, the speedo is quite accurate because I can run almost with a Rancher at top speed on his. And I've been clocked with a radar gun. Only 5mph difference between high and low.
