It is a bit odd that you get a spark but the neutral light and starter button won't work nor will it fire up, as this indicates two separate faults. The machine has to be in neutral for the starter to work, the electrics don't think it is in neutral so won't energise the solenoid. I can't remember off hand if the old model 250 had two sender units sticking out of the cases, one for neutral one for reverse like a 300, or a rotary switch inside the alternator cover like the later 250 with digital display, either way you have probably pulled a wire off when you hit a branch. I think the neutral wire is pale green with red tracer, most Hondas are, it goes to the socket that the thin solenoid wires plug into so you can check the colour. Find a loose or broken wire of this colour, and you have found that fault. Some systems also have a diode in this circuit which can go bad, that could be one for the dealer to fix. Once you get the engine turning "on the button" it may just fire up. If it doesn't, check the fuel side.
