Hondas back!!

With two bad knees and a bad back I prefer the automatics over the semi-autos and manuals. I like how Polaris and Can-Am have low ranges that can get up to around 30 mph before they wind out. I like the idea of choosing between automatic and shift paddles for semi-auto function too. I'm glad they didn't use the Rincon transmission. I found 1st gear wasn't low enough and it didn't have a lot of top end. I still want Honda to have a spirited steed that can get up to the high speeds in a 2-up quad.

One can hope this will be the new Rincon transmission. That old 3 speed auto with an automotive style torque converter looked like a good idea at the time but it underperformed. Bump up the displacement on the Rincon and give it this new 6 speed dual clutch transmission with an ES option and Honda might have the sportiest 4x4 utility quad on the market. While they're at it, put it on all the utility quads, Rancher, Foreman, Rubicon and Rincon at least as an option. Maybe keep the Recon as is to keep it cheap though a displacement boost would be appreciated in Honda's smallest utility quad as well.

I cant wait to read some reviews on this new transmission performance in the Pioneer. Considering I have seen more Pioneer 500s out and about than I figured to, the 1000 will sell briskly if priced right.

well something to be said for honda trying. do doubts on the dependability or engineering. It will last. But it doesn't seem very fun. Bring back the machine that was ahead of its time - the Pilot. Ironically, the RZR comes along much later and is a hit. Nice ride, but allot of $$$.
I'm with getting a Jeep instead - SXS is outrageously priced. with R&D going to the SXS market i doubt we'll see anything for a while in the sport ATV arena like an updated 450R or anything else.

Its funny with all the the talk about these new 1000cc models, I was actually looking at older Rhino models because by now they're available pretty cheap. Saw a Rhino 450 for sale relatively locally for $4000. Saw a Rhino 660 for even less at $3600 but owner said it smoked. Claims it starts and still runs well and has been on craigslist for almost a month. Had a warn winch, roof, windshield and aftermarket exhaust. Might be able to pick it up for around $3000, spend a few hundred on engine work and have a nice Rhino 660 for around $3500. 2006 Yamaha rhino 660 Not sure if its worth the gamble or not but it looks pretty nice.

It still is a shift transmission.
When lamo honda has a belt drive tell me about the advancement. Till then...Big whoop.
IMO just another machine to get stuck on the side of a hill trying to shift.

I can't recall from the video but I believe even in "manual" mode the DCT will shift as required. From what little I can tell, if you get stuck on a hill trying to shift it's totally operator error in this unit. LT80's statement makes no sense ultimately. You have the "option" to shift if you want. You don't have to.

"it's totally operator error in this unit"
"I believe even in "manual" mode the DCT will shift as required"
And that's my point. Operator error seems to happen way more that we like.
IMO anything that shifts can get stuck on a hill from lack of momentum and other pilot error.
A CVT would fix that.
Not everyone has years of expierience like most of us do.
Sorry if I offended anyone.
