jetting my R
#1
ok i finally got my R to idle. but now it back fires a little i had a 155m and tried 3rd and 2nd needle notch. i went up to a 160m and 2nd notch and it seemed to decrease the back firing. i have a esr pipe no siliencer(not for long) k&N filter with no airbox and boyseen reeds with spacer. any suggestions

i had the same problem when i got my R,i took the carb apart cleaned it real good still did the same thing though.i had the same mods as you, my r had a 148 in it when i got it, i messed aroubd with a whole bunch of combo's between jet size and needle setting. i wound up with either a 155 or 158(main jet) not real sure, and the needle setting on the 4th one down, that gives you your throttle response. what ever you do try though, the one thing i learned from tunning mine is that once you make a change make sure you ride it a little bit to make sure you clean it out and then check your results, hope this helps.

I am doing the same thing you are. I did some bolt on mods recently. My original main was a 150. So far I am at 175 main, needle clip 2nd from the bottom. If you are backfiring I think you are still lean. Check your plug.

I have an ESR pipe on my 86 r i just bought. Is your pipe a drag pipe that comes out of the frame around ur leg? Mine goes through the frame. Are these good quality pipes? i am wondering wether i should get an lrd. oh ya i have a DG silencer.
