I put a Magura hydraulic clutch lever and cylinder on my 400EX and I'm amazed at how much smoother it is over the stocker. There is a tremendous improvement in the "feel". I didn't realize how "grabby" the clutch engagement is with the stock cable setup. $220 from James Lucky. Installation was a piece of cake.

Do you think that the hydraulic clutch could be modified to work on other quads?

I've been waiting for someone to give the details of this setup... How bad of condition was your stock cable in? What kind of adjustability does the hydro unit have?

More details please

I'll try to cover all the above questions in this post. The stock starter, light, kill switch assembly stays where it normally would. You don't have to replace or remove it- it fits perfectly. I don't think that you could make the system work on another quad because the slave cylinder and cylinder mounting bracket look like they were designed specifically for the 400EX. I don't know if they make one for the 300EX. You may want to contact Magura through their web-site to check if they have other models.

My clutch is still the original equipment from summer of '99. I wouldn't say that the clutch pull is that much lighter than when using the cable, but it has a much more linear feel. I really notice the difference when threading my way through tight trails and when driving up my fold-up loading ramp. It gives such better feel and the power is so tractable.

There is an adjustor on the clutch perch that adjusts where in the range of lever movement that the clutch engages.

My only criticism would be that the tubing that connects the master cylinder to the slave cylinder is longer than it needs to be. I couldn't figure out how they intended it to go throught the stock mounting locations- it seemed like it was about 10" too long. I routed the tubing behind the oil tank instead of in front between the headers.

I also have a hydraulic clutch but I got the billetanium set up. He showed me the magura slave cylinder compared to his ,and his looks much beefier! The magura slave cylinder uses a bicycle spoke to pull in the clutch arm. The billetanium set up is much stronger, you can see pic's at www.sandbros.com under "Mikes Ride"
This set up is $400.00 and it uses the Magura lever and master cylinder. The clutch control is amazing, much better feel.
Look for a full report on ATV Conenction soon!

The Billetanium set-up looks like the Rolex version of the Magura set-up. Wow, take a look at their web-site www.billetanium.com
