Default I need advice on getting a 300ex

I’m looking to buy either a 250ex or 300ex. I’m sure a lot of you will say 300ex or that I might as well just get a 400ex but I’m only 14, 5’5 and 135 lbs. I have had a 200sx for the past year and have ridden three wheelers and quads all my life. I am pretty experienced, the problem is that my dad tells me that even a 300ex is a lot of machine and that he doesn’t want me getting hurt. Any advice that you guys may have? I don’t know what to tell him.

That's a tough one given that you've been riding for a good bit of your life. Honestly, you can get just as hurt on a 200 as a 300. If you get hurt at top speed it will mean just a little more hurt than on the smaller machine. Not a good argument, I know. Does he ride at all? If he's seen your skills and that you ride responsibly it would go a long way to him having the faith in your abilities. If you are footing the cost, get body armor, riding boots and a good helmet if you don't have them now. I wish I had the magic words but they don't exist. A concerned parent is better than having a parent who just leaves his child to learn the hard way.

Thanks for the advice .He has ridden all his life, when he was 8 he got his first ATC which was a Honda 125m. Now he owns plenty of quads and three wheelers, he owns a 350x, 250sx, 2 200xs, 2 big reds, a Yamaha shaft, his own 200sx, an fl350, a rancher, a Honda fatcat, a foreman, a fourtrax 300, there’s more I just can’t think of them off the top of my head.

Well first of all, as said above, if you ride responsibly, you can get any machine you want. Ik you said not a 400ex but I still strongly suggest a 400ex. They have a very slow first gear for starting off. If you ride responsibly, a 400ex is a great quad.

Second, your not to young to buy a 400ex. Im also 14 years old. I am almost 5'10, but I am close to your weight. My first quad was actually a raptor 350 and I'm can top that out so now I have a 400ex.

Any way, out of those choices, get a 300ex. They are old and not as good as the 400ex, but they are still solid machines.

Good luck

Thanks for the luck, I think I’ve found a 300ex and I’ve convinced him I’m old enough for it. I’ll just need help trying to get a 400ex in like 2 years.
