I dont know much about my 400exes electrical system but i know i need a new battery. I remember back in winter when everyone was having problems with there 400exes starting, someone said there is a battery that puts out more voltage than a regular battery. Can you tell me where to pick one up at and about how much?

Call LRD Performance. Ask for Jason, he knows which battery you'll need. The stock 400Ex battery has 125 cranking amps, the battery I have has 175 cranking amps. LRD # (503) 661-6700

If you will need to replace your battery, I would suggest that you get a Yuasa # YT12A-BS It fits as stock but it gives you 175cca instead of the 125cca of stock... I use it, this info was given to me by Jason at LRD Performance.. It is a must if you have a new cdi box. Cost from LRD is about $80, Check around and see if you can get it cheaper, maybe directly from Yuasa....

why do you need a new battery if you have an upgraded cdi box?

With the modified cdi box, you not only up your rpm's by 1100 you also change the spark timing.

I am not sure exactly how much it changes but its approx. 100 rpm higher for the plug to spark. Basically it takes 100 more rpm than stock to fire.
Combine this with the cold starting of the 400ex and especially with cold outside temps the new battery is great... I have no trouble starting mine now....

Clutch is right. I have the battery he is talking about and it works fine. It does make a big difference in how the bike starts. The battery is standard equipment on alot of Suzukis but works just fine on the EX.
