Default TRX450es Shift Issues

I have a 1999 Honda TRX450ES that the electric shift seems to stop working after ten minutes of riding. I have to shut the bike off then start it again immediatly and it will work againg for another short period then act up again. Hope to hear resolve from someone with similar problem.

Cheers

It can be anything in the electrical side of the shift mechanism. An overcharging voltage regulator can cause other electronics to get hot, so check the voltage at the battery isn't going over 15v. However most likely culprits are the angle sensor and the shift motor. You can take the motor to pieces and check for oil/water inside it and worn brushes. Be warned, it is a swine to get back together. Although, in theory, you can check the angle sensor electrically, most people just change it, if the fault goes away it was the angle sensor.
