Default 07 Foreman 500-shifting issues

Having issues shifting on my 07 foreman 500-Manual shift. Problems with clutch I suppose. Down shifts easier than normal. Up shifting is rather difficult and takes force sometimes. I have to pull the shifter up by hand in some cases. Pops out of gear sometimes usually in 4th or 5th gear. Any thoughts?

It may just be a loose star wheel in the clutch case, but probably time for a gearbox rebuild. The 500 had a known gearbox fault, you were lucky if it didn't last the guarantee out, unlucky if it did, because it would start jumping out of gear eventually. Honda changed spec on the gears and sliding dogs in 07, and the boxes were OK after that. Any new gears you buy will be the revised type. Check the whole selector mechanism when dismantling, bent forks are common, as are worn drums, and all Hondas are prone to loose star wheels and cracked or broken pawls on the lever that turns the star wheel.
