First of all, is the K&N air filter supposed to be so tight in the airbox. It barely fits! Also, is there a way to get to the carb without taking off all the plastic and the gas tank? Also, I put on the K&N and a vented airbox lid, will a 126 jet work? I'm at 1500 ft. (i think). Thanks for any replies.

I dont have a K&N so i can comment on that, but a 126 sounds like a good starting point. I think i have a 128 in, but thats what was in it when i bought it (used).

As for getting to the carb it depends on what you want to do. You can get the main jet out without taking anything off but it's a tight fit. Look on the bottom of the carb. There is a 17mm bolt under there. Take that out and feel inside the hole. You should feel the main jet and with some work and the right tools you should be able to get it out.
Although i've never tried it, it looks as though you might be able to take the back fenders off, the front tube that connects the carb to the engine, the tube that connects the carb to the airbox and the fuel lines and throttle cable and you may be able to get the carb out through the side (with the fenders and tank still on) BUT it is a tight fit and will take some work.
It's probably just easier to take the front fenders and tank off, which isnt really hard to do.

yes the k&n fits that tightly, i know there are a pain. ive run a k&n on mine for 2 years now and its always been hard to put on and take off. The only way i know to get to my carb off is to pull of the plastic and gas tank, if you find a better way please let me know.He is right that jet is a good starting point, but you might have to go up a size or two. al why do you say the fmf megamax sucks? I know a friend with a megamax on his 300ex and he thought it was great. I was planning on putting a megamax on mine too.

i have to say it..can the K&N filter and get a UNI..i'll get flamed for this..but in my experience K&N filters don't filter good.

Dirt in the carb of my 250X, seen other people have the same problem, and a fellow on here, haven't seen him post forever, but gabe, aka 86atc250r had enough dirt pass through his K&N on his 400ex to ruin the rings.

here is the problem i have with the megamax exhaust. If you have to run it wide open without any discs then why even spend the money on it? Why not just gut the stock exhaust or buy one of those crappy DG race exhaust systems for $100 (or cheaper if you buy it used because everyone (including me) and his brother is selling one)
????

if i would have known that, i wouldnt have bought the fmf in the first place. you cant get any power by gutting the stock exhaust, the head pipe is way to small
