2002 Foreman Rubicon 500 - No Oil to Rockers & Cam
#1
This has probably been discussed but no one ever posts that actual fixes which defeats the purpose….. but I digress
I have no oil lubing the rockers assuming I should see it plain as day with the engine running and rocker covers off
split the motor
Cleaned and blew air through all oil galleys
New Honda oil pump
New chain
new Orings between all oil pump passages and cross over dowels
10w30 oil
40-50 psi at pressure test port. which is high according to the manual at idle (22 psi at 1400 RPM says the Manual)
oil pressure valve and spring free and moving
yet no oil rockers. Why?

so pulled the motor back apart and checked every oil gallery for blockage. found none. Pulled the Hondamatic out and paritially apart. Learned that the oil from the oil pump feed the centershaft of the hondamatic at the front of the motor, basically at the oil test port. The oil goes straight thru the Hondamatic shaft, hits a couple holes along the way to feed the Hondamatic and exits out the end through a small bleed hole. This bleed hole feeds pressure to the rear case and the top end. I believe I had a blockage in the Hondamatic because i blew air thru it initially and didnt feel much pressure at the opposite end. then i poured oil into the shaft while it stood up and watched for oil the drip from the weep hole. It didnt. then i blew air thru it from bother directions and heard a pop. So i stood it up again and poured oil into it and boom, a steady stream of oil.
putting the more back together tomorrow and will advise

i was able to achieve oil flow to the rocker cover by pulling the starter rope several times. Then i started the motor and saw great oil flow to the rockers and cam. So anyone having oil pressure at the test port and none to the top end i advise pulling the oil plug from the front of the motorwhere the pipe feeds the Hondmatic and use compressed air to check for flow as well as clear the blockage possible. do this with rocker coveres off so you can verify oil.

So, are there timing marks on the bottom of the case, or is it just lining up the notch on the cam to the cylinder head?
