Double riding 400EX safe for machine?
#1
My woman and I often double ride our 01' 400EX.
Will this hurt the machine at all?
I weigh about 170-175, she weighs about 110.
We just trail ride, and cruise. Look for new trails, and just play around basically.
I know the EX has a 250 or so lb weight limit, but we are not riding aggressive at all when we double ride. (I do by myself of course)
I has no problem at all keeping speed in 5th, even up a mild hill, or climbing any hill at all in the lower gears with both of us ridin.
Are we going to damage the bike in any way in the long run? Hondas are bulletproof, so I am confident that it will not harm it. I would appreciate any input, or advise on the subject though.

I dont think you are risking any immediate danger to your machine. However, please be careful for your sake and the rest of us.
I have heard reports of racers starting to lose 2nd gear in their 400EXs. Racing is far more abusive than riding double, but it still could be a sign of things to come for alot of 400EXs.

It is pretty much harmless for a bike of that build, Especially soft riding, possibly adjust your suspension for long rides. And Im sure you'll know that you will wheelie easier and flip it much easier when two-up, unless she understands weight distribution. But I thrash a My trx300fw with my sister on and just tell her to lean the way I lean. No accidents yet.
