Default 2005 Rincon 650 Starter?

I was putting in a new battery and all of a sudden I hear this horrible grinding noise after trying to start it. I thought it was the starter cogs but was wrong. Could this possibly be something in the flywheel that has broken, as in the back of the motor. been trying to find anything to help but there is so little information on these bikes its quite ridiculous.

Your description is a bit vague, as the grinding noise is far more likely when trying to start rather than "after trying to start" it. Unless it actually did start, in which case the grinding noise could be from anything in the engine. This pic shows the starter mechanism, https://www.hondapartsnation.com/oem...8/starter-gear so a failed gear or Torque limiter assembly (never come across one of them before) could be the culprit.

Another thought, if the engine was seized, I wonder if the torque limiter would kick in, possibly making strange noises as the starter spins.

Yeah sorry about being vauge, but it happened while I tried starting then just the sound of the starter but not engaging, making me think i broke one of the gears trying to start it but i replaced the starter and everything engaged but still nothing when i hooked it back up to the bike. I have not tried to see if the motor is seized but i will probably just have to pull it out anyway and cover all the bases. I just wish there were more people who have owned this bike and have possibly had these same problems.

Sounds like the one way bearing and big starting called starter clutch is slipping and not grapping the flywheel
