I remember reading past posts regarding using a bicycle speedometer for your quad. I have been riding with a buddy who has a Honda 600 motorcycle which has an odometer. It has been very helpful knowing the distance we have traveled. Can anyone tell me what brand of speedometer they used and how it was installed? Also how is it holding up? Thanks, Dave

That was probably me that you read about having a bicycle speedometer. What you do is you set it up just like you would a bicycle. As soon as I can barrow a digital camara, I'll take pictures and post them for you.

97300exGuy, what brand did you use? I've tried a couple brands but the cable is too short and I'm a little leary of buying the wireless one because of possible electronic problems.

Check out www.rockymountainatv.com $69.99 for a Trail Tech: Precision designed for exact model fit, Rugged construction withstands harsh racing and trail riding environments, Provides several functions including: Current Speed, Average Speed,
Top Speed, Distance, Overall Mileage, Accumulated Riding Time, Clock, Maintenance Reminder and more.
Back Lit display for night riding, Battery life is up to 1 1/2 years, Two year warranty.

I use a Garmin E-Trex GPS ($120), mounted to the bars with a RAM Mount ($30). I have ridden and jumped some pretty rough stuff and have not had any problems with either the GPS or the mount. The GPS has a LOT of features that you may find worth the extra money, and its very easy to use.

EBAY!

I got a CatEyes digital speedo for $50.
It has Odometer, dual tripometer, speedometer, avg speed, top speed memory, Hours meter, clock, alarm plus I am probably forgetting a couple things.

The guys uses one on his 400ex and has no problems jumping or mudding with it.
He sent a piece of wire to extend the sensor and revised instructions for modding it to a quad.

Any bicycle speedo that is calibrated by tire circumference should work.

Hopefully I will have mine on this weekend.

Quad61@att.net has been selling a modified cateye speedo on Ebay. It works really good. I put one on my 400EX and had no problems with it under some pretty nasty riding conditions. Lately they have been selling for around $40 to $45.

If you're thinking about spending $50 or $70 on a speedometer why not think about spending $99 on a GPS. It wll be more accurate, keep you from getting lost, map your route, use waypoints, tell elevation and you can carry it with you when you do other things. Just my $.02

I spent $20 canadian and got a 12 function Bell speedo from canadian tire.(wal mart should have it in the states. It is very accurate(compared to a honda ranchers) for distance, but seems off for current speed(lower numbers than the honda) Overall a good investiment. I have gone in mud, and water with no problems. you just have to put the magnet on your rim with some goop( or very strong glue), and glue the sensor to the caliper, and zip tie the wire up the brake line, and up beside the steering column. you also have to splice 2 feet of speaker wire to the existing wire. good luck whatever you do.
