gearing? for 400ex
#1
Was wondering what gearing everyone is running on pretty tight mx tracks? I'm running 18 inch tammers. Also is there any power to be found by removing the spark arrestor from the E-series pipe?
Thanks

I run 18" MX Holeshots on my 440EX. I run 15/38 and I havent had a problem yet. I ran it at a small MX track that they made on Virginia Beach a couple weeks ago. It ran very well, awesome power exiting corners and really didnt have to shift too much.
At my home track which is a big MX track several long straights. It seems to work equally well. Only instead of running 2, 3 and 4 like I did on the sand track. I am mainly in 3 and 4 and occasionally click up in to 5th on a very fast straight.
If speed isnt a problem on the track you are running. You might consider a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket. I know when I first ran my bike stock at the track. I was wishing for more snap when shifting gears and approaching some of the uphill jumps.
