I was wondering if some of you ol' 250R pros know what a realistic top speed of a ported and polished '88 250R should be. I just ran mine with 20" holeshots and a 13 / 36 gearing with a result of 76.4 mph. My full exhaust Raptor ran 74.1 mph for comparison.

Thanks for the input...

Do you have the stock gearing on that Raptor? I hit 82.7 and 83.2 with my Raptor on GPS but I'm up one tooth in front. And a friend of mine has a slightly modded 250R and he wants to drag race soon.

660R01,

Yes, the gearing on the Raptor was stock. I feel the the 74.1 mph result with the Big Gun exhaust and air box mods was accurate since the magazines with radar were reporting 71 mph on stock Raptors.

If the 250s that want to race you run like mine, then they should beat you up to their top speed and then you should pull ahead with your taller gearing. I think the results of the race will depend on the lenght of the race. However, if they are running a 14 gear as you are, it may be a different story?

My first run on the R resulted 74.2 mph (almost same as Raptor) with the Hoosiers that were about 2" shorter than the Holeshots. The 2" gave me a little over 2 mph extra. I've heard the 14 tooth on the Rs will make a CONSIDERABLE difference.

Let me know how it turns out...
