I HAVE A 2000 300EX WITH FMF PIPE AND K&N FILTER AND CARB JETTED. I AM THINKING OF GETTING A 400EX I KNOW THEY RANK GREAT, HOW MUCH OF A DIFFRENCE BETWEEN THE 300 IN HANDELING ON TIGHT TRAILS AND SPEED. IF SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME AND OVERALL COMPARISON. I DON'T RACE JUST A WEEKEND WARRIOR.

You might want to keep your 300EX since it has reverse. Unless you prefer getting off and picking up the back to spin it around like you would have to do on the 400EX.

Hey whats up? I probably ride the same places as you and i can tell you that the 400ex does great around here. It's great over the big woops like the ones down at Crystal lake or Forked and i hardly ever have to get off to spin my quad around so who cares about reverse. The 400 is a great climber as well, i can take it up some big sand hills and you dont really need paddles in the sand because the 400 hooks up in loose sand pretty good.

get the 400. don't listen to people whine about how it doesn't have reverse. its not hard to pick the damn thing up. if your too ***** to pick it up and turn it around then you shouldn't be riding in the first place. also the shocks on the 300 just aren't up to snuff. the 400 has better shocks than any other stock bike with the exception of the cannondale. in the tight trails the 300 will keep up with it but one you get in a straight away the 300 will get smoked bad. the 400 handles better and has a lot more power. trust me you'll be glad you got the 400. i have lots of experience on both bikes. the 400 is simply the better bike.

I own both. The 300 is set up for trail riding and the 400 for desert (baja) XC. I think the 300 is the ULTIMATE trail machine (that is if you are not a tall rider, in which case you will have to settle for a larger less agile machine). I run 21" front and 20" rear Holeshots, and boy it has quickened the steering considerably! The 300's size makes it the perfect trail ride. Its short wheelbase and narrower width are a big plus. Sure the power is down compared to the 400, but it is VERY TRACTABLE POWER. On the 300 I can power out of a turn and keep the wheels on the ground and maintain steering. When I do that on the 400, I just do a wheelie and lose my steering control! Yesterday I was trail riding with 400's and Raptors, and none of them had ANYTHING on me in the tight stuff!! The extra power they have just isn't usable on the trail. The 400 is a good trail bike too, it's just not as agile as the smaller 300.
