I have a Rubicon with its original tires and it "just" fits in my truck with tailgate closed. If I put 26" or 27" on my Rubi will my tailgate close??

Are there any Rubi and Silverado owners with biggers tires out there???

Thanks
Marco Polo

marcopolo,
Which way do you put your Ruby in your truck, drive it in or back it in. I drive mine in and I'm about 3 or 4 inches short of shutting the tailgate. Unless you put the rack right up on the rear window of the truck (which I won't do)it won't fit.

I drive it in and the tailgate closes if I "force" it close. The rack is about 3-4 inches from the window.

What kind of tires do you have???

Before I bought my trailer for my Arctic Cat 500 and 400 I had the same problem with my Dakota R/T. An easy solution is to buy a portable air tank and let the air out of the tires to around 1-2 psi so the gate will close. Air up the tires when you arive and you are set. It is also nice to have in case of a flat or to dust off an area if needed. It worked for me until I bought an extra quad. It should work just fine with the larger tires.

Be very carefull forcing the gate shut. I eventually damaged my locking mechanism doing that.

I can close the tailgate on my old swb Silverado with my stock Rubicon loaded. Before I close it, I drive the Ruby's front wheels up on a couple of 2X6 boards that are about a foot long each. This extra height on the front allows it to go in a tad farther. Then I put a couple of tie-downs from the rear stake holes to the foot pegs since there's only a couple of inches clearance behind the rear window.
