This is getting out of hand! Just some FYI for you...even if the 400EX is rev'd higher than stock, it will not produce more power...try looking at a stock "dyno" chart...once you reach the cut off...its already reached max power and is on a decline...the only time a higher rev will help, is when you change the power characteristics, ie: pipe, intake, port&polish, cam...etc.

PEOPLE!!! LISTEN!!! THERE IS NO FREAKIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE YELLOW AND RED (EXCEPT FOR COLOR). I ride with both, alot of reds and 2 yellows.... NO DIFFERENCE!!!!!

Ok, sorry...I had to get that off my chest.

When I got my Blue 300 4x4 someone tried to tell me almost that same story. They said that the red 4x4's made that year had 10 extra horsepower. Then they tried to buy my 4-wheeler off me, for a lot less than I paid for it. Just goes to show that people will tell you anything to help benifit themselves these days.

No, sarcasm is not a problem...most of these posts are sarcasm, but there are a few that arent...those are the ones that need corrected, or taken outside and beat with a stick

The Chemicals used to Make the Plastic Yellow, are lighter than the ones used to make the plastic Red, thus saving weight. If you compare a red ex to a yellow ex, it FEELS like a 10-15hp difference because of the weight you save on the yellow one. Trust me...I never BS anybody

I would like to change my opinion. I think yellow is totally faster than red. I have a LT250R and it has yellow plastic and would fly right by a 400ex. As for 400ex's, yellow will go faster due to the light color. It reflects the sun light so the sun rays cant hold it back . But red attracts sunlight and is forced to carry the heavy load of sun light. Thats the REAL truth.

VWVR6,,,your right about just raising the rev limit won't produce more power. What I forgot to mention is that the one manufacture of the cams for the motor, put the wrong grind on the cams, which is tuned to peak hp at 14,000 RPS. These cams seem to be just on the yellow 400ex line at the plant. So the combination of these cams and rev boxes makes the yellow 400ex scream.

All this sarcasm. I asked a real simple question. Is the yellow faster than red?? I just wanted a real answer. Out of all those I found about three good answers. I heard a few rumors about why it could be faster like it had a higher compression ratio and another was it had a smaller rear sprocket. Now I hear another about the cam here. Anyway, at least all the sarcasm here gave me a good laugh. Anyways, can't wait to cancel my 2002 YELLOW 300ex to order a 2002 YELLOW 400ex.
