springdrl,
For your information, Corvette will void your warranty if you run anything other than Mobil 1 synthetic during the warranty period, and it has to be changed according to a normal service period.....not an extended interval.
I personally run Mobil 1 15W-50 in my recent purchase ('97 300EX), and have had no clutch problems. My cousin ran it in his 250X for a couple years with no clutch problems, or problems of any kind. I run Mobil 1 for 2 different reasons, depending on what I'm using it in. In my truck, I change it every 10,000 miles.........reasons being is that it protects better than petro, and I have a longer oil drain interval. The reason I run it in my air-cooled ATV is simply because the operating temperatures are so high, and that engine needs the best. I don't run an extended interval on the ATV.

On this Mobil 1 topic, I also am a fan of Mobil 1. I have running nothing but Mobil 1 in my previous car and current truck. Everthing Gabe has said is true. In a high reving, air-cooled 4 stroke you need ALL the protection you can get. I am currently running the 20-50 V-twin oil in mine. In the winter I probably will switch down to the 15-50.
As for the vette, that is also true. You MUST run Mobil 1 during the warranty. Also, Porsche and other high end German autos run Mobil 1 from the factory.....Hmmmmm.

Those manufacturers running Mobil 1 from the factory makes me wonder if there is any validity in running petroleum oil for break-in. I know an engine will still break in with synthetic, but supposedly takes longer. I just wonder if it is ok to break any engine in with synthetic. Anybody know anything on this topic?

The porpose of break in is to wear the rings to the shape of the cylender. Honda really doesnt spend millions of dollars making each set of rings specifically for each engine that runs off the production line. For an engine to break in faster, it would have to have more friction... just an observation. To springdrl, 150,000 miles aint that much anymore. We have a buick lesaber that has 230,000 miles, run on synthetic. A 94 GMC 1500 with over 250,000 miles, guess what that was run on? I will be swiching to moblie 1 now that my quad is broken in. If you dont believe gabe knows what he is talking about, go to www.exriders.com, and look in the old forum, he has a very extensive summary on why you shouldnt waiste your money on motorcycle oil, and why petrol isnt better then synthetic.
