I'm having a problem with my Rubicon wanting to overheat. The last two times I've had it out, the oil temp./overheat light has come on. It has come on before because of the radiator/oil cooler fins being plugged with mud, but this last time, the fins were clean. Granted, the outside temperature was in the 90's, but are there any other causes that I need to look at before turning it over to my dealer?

Since the radiator was dirty enough to cause overheating, I suspect that you might need to clean it a little better with a pressure wash. Be careful not to flatten any fins but if you do, take a screw driver and straighten them out.

Im going to aggree on this one. I could not get mine clean with a garden hose. It just does not have the pressure needed. I purchased a pressure washer for mine. Now, you need to be careful and spray it straight on. I would also not use a jet stream nozzle....I use the fan one. You MUST be able to see light through every inch of the radiator.

Also, check your coolant level to make sure it is correct.

I do use a pressure washer when cleaning the radiator. I remove the plastic grill in front of it too. The cooling fan does come on quite a bit, and I've even added a coolant additive that is supposed to help keep it cooler. Any other ideas?

Do you have any other symptoms like poor performance or hard starting?
Is everything stock, including the spark plug? If everything is original, I'm wondering if the control module could be bad and the timing is advanced too far. Have you ever adjusted the valves? I'm just throwing darts but if you'll give us more info, maybe we can circle the wagons on this deal.

It really doesn't start hard. Everything is stock, except for the tires, and a few body add-ons...i.e, skid plate, winch, etc... I had the first service done on it at 30 hours, by my dealer. Right now, it has 429 miles with 94 hours. I'm running a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. Should I thin that down more? The coolant additive I'm using recommends running straight water.
