400ex VS. Warrior
#11
What is the rpm limit of a warrior? IF you had the same size tires, and the same sprockets, the warrior would loose unless its rpm limit is drastically higher because of how quick the 400 gets to speed,. If the rpm limit where higher the warrior would be playing catch up for a while. The final drive ratio is what matters, just like drag racing cars. You have quick cars, and fast cars, the difference is the gears. The trick is to make a quick car fast, and that requires HP, where the 400 would whoop a equally equipt warrior. I was wooping on a modded warrior last year with my stock 400, now its just rediculous.

I would have to say the 400ex. b/c i have raced prolly a dozen warriors that had minor motor work when my 400ex was bone stock. the only plus about the warrior is the 6th gear and the warrior really does need it. the 400ex will get the warrior out of the hole (if u sit on the gas cap), will own it in mid range b/c the 400ex has more torque, and on top end the 400ex waxes the warrior unless u race over a 1/4 mile.

I do like the 400EX's, don't get me wrong, but the only reason they are that fast is the gearing. If they had a 13/40 gearing, they wouldn't be that fast. Maybe a little faster than the warrior, but it would have a LOAD of bottom end. If the warrior had the same gearing as a 400EX, the warrior would be the faster of the two quads, but it would have NO bottom end. Gearing makes all the difference. I have a 96 warrior that's bored .020 over, K&N filter, drilled air box lid, no baffle, and 14/38 gearing. I'm not joking, but in a straight line, I kill a 400EX. On a track, the warrior will lose. On the trails, it depends on the rider. Hill climbs, it depends on the rider. The only part about riding a quad that is mostly the bike is a straight on drag for a long stretch, (1/4-1/2 mile) and if both quads had the same gearing, the warrior would win. The 400EX will get to top speed faster due to it's high tech engine, bigger engine displacement, more horses, and the less weight. Just something to think about! Please, I don't wish to start any fights, just trying to help hnda400EX out on his top speed question.

400ex smokes the warrior no contest...and I don't know why you people are talking about changing the gearing so the warrior would win, the only way that would work is if you raced on like a 2mile downhill stretch and the EX would still be ahead most of the time lol. With my EX it pulls the frontend with out lifting 1st and 2nd and can get it up in the rest with the warrior it wouldnt pull up without you reefing on it and to get it up in 3rd you have to have a lot of muscle lol.

ive had both a 400ex and a yamaha warrior and id have to say the 400 was faster but the warrior was an 87 and completely worn out. i have also dragraced my 300ex against warriors and 400exs and beet the warrior. they had 400 fourstrokes and lower. i was only 1 fourwheeler length behind the 400s. id say that an old six speed warrior would possibly be faster if in new condition.
