400ex VS. Warrior
#3
I've owned both. The 400EX is faster stock. I have dragged with a friend who was on a 400 while I was on my Warrior, and the 400 beat me every time unless it got a bad start (ie - wheelie!) I sold my Warrior, and now have a 400EX. Both are great bikes, but my 400 is better for me!

Isn't the gearing on a 400EX 15/40? If you put the same gearing on both quads, the warrior would win, hands down. It would take longer to get there but it would be faster. Put the 15/40 gearing on a warrior and then drag no less than 1/2 mile. I will put money on the warrior. But off the showroom, the Ex is faster, but only by a few mph. Remember though, each quad has a differnt purpose and to be used two different ways. The warrior is for trails. The EX for trails or racing MX or some other race of that sort.

A 400EX does 64mph bone stock! I clocked my cusion. I was on a FZ-1 street bike and we went down a paved back road. 64 MPH. Prettty good for STOCK. I do like the 400EX's, don't get me wrong, but the only reason they are that fast is the gearing. If they had a 13/40 gearing, they wouldn't be that fast. Maybe a little faster than the warrior, but it would have a LOAD of bottom end. If the warrior had the same gearing as a 400EX, the warrior would be the faster of the two quads, but it would have NO bottom end. Gearing makes all the difference. I have a 96 warrior that's bored .020 over, K&N filter, drilled air box lid, no baffle, and 14/38 gearing. I'm not joking, but in a straight line, I kill a 400EX. On a track, the warrior will lose. On the trails, it depends on the rider. Hill climbs, it depends on the rider. The only part about riding a quad that is mostly the bike is a straight on drag for a long stretch, (1/4-1/2 mile) and if both quads had the same gearing, the warrior would win. The 400EX will get to top speed faster due to it's high tech engine, bigger engine displacement, more horses, and the less weight. Just something to think about! Please, I don't wish to start any fights, just trying to help hnda400EX out on his top speed question.

I hear what your saying about the gearing, but who cares if you get your Warrior to have a faster top speed than a 400ex if it takes it 3 hours to get to that top speed. Most people i know are changing their front sprocket on their 400's to a 14 for more ripping low end because most quads spend most of the time in 2nd and 3rd gears rather than 5th.
