All the haters says the 400ex is underpowered and it's slower than my brand x quad. Well wouldn't you expect a 600cc quad to be faster and more powerful than a 400 cc one. All the manufacturers, with the exception of Cannondale, had to stuff big a** engines in their new sport quads to compete with the sales of the 400ex. They know that a buyer will usually buy the bigger quad because of the fear that some of us have. I know the Yamaha guys know what I'm talking about, "The fear that someone might beat me in a drag race on flat ground".

Here you go, guys. Hope this stops some of this mindless bickering. I started this post over at EXRiders so this is straight from the horses mouth.

Theres alot of you young punks on here that dont realize how engines work. The reason the raptor doesnt exceed the 400EX by such a great deal is the fact of BIG BORE ENGINES DONOT MAKE AS MUCH POWER PER CC AS A SMALLER BORE ENGINE!! Take for instance the XR400 and XR600. The XR600 only puts out a few more ponies then the XR400 BUT where the difference is, is that the XR600 has GOBS of TORQUE. If you want a 650-660cc engine to have big HP it has to be a twin so the piston size is smaller wich makes more HP per cc.

Does anyone just ride their machines or just complain about other machines. Does it matter who has a better machine. The only one who needs to like it is the owner. Any elses opinion don't really matter. DO you think that Honda and Yamaha engineers loose any sleep at night over this debate.

<< If you are buying a Honda only to be the fastest you are buying a Honda for the wrong reasons. Even a 650EX probably would not be the fastest quad. Honda's are never the fastest, the best handling probably. But not the fastest. That's just not Honda's thing. >>
now heres a kid who knows the deal. anyone company can build a fast quad but few can come close to how the honda handles and performs.
honda best on earth!

300EXredrider,

Ranchorider, In my opinion only Yamaha put a 600cc+ motor in a quad to compete with Honda. Although the DS is a 600cc+ quad I think it is different enough that the 400EX and it aren't competing for sales as close as say the Raptor & 400EX. I still think Yamaha was in such a hurry to compete with Honda they blew it with the Raptor, it's fast yes but at the same time kind of a joke too. Not only is it horribly unreliable, it's not nearly the quad yamaha touted it to be. As far as the 400 running with the big bore quads. Yes it does for awhile. But from 40mph on up is where I see the DS's & Raptor pull away from the 400 at a rapidly increasing rate. However, in the trails it's hard to outrun the 400EX, even with 200cc+.
